Question about the O/D button

i've been told different things about the overdrive button. when the light on the dash is lighted up that means O/D is on the off position, right?? i've never had a vehicle that used O/D, when should i and should not be on O/D...appreciate your help. thanks!

as far as i know, you should always use overdrive.. except when towing, or when you are traveling mountain terrain so its not constantly shifting in and out of O/D. but thats my opinion. what does everyone else think?

well, when going uphill, always take the O/D off(but if u dont, the car will automatically downshift for u, but will try to shift back to O/D when it thinks its cool), when the light is lit on the dash, that means the O/D is off and it will not shift to O/D and if its off, it means that u have the O/D button enganged. If youre travelling down straight roads, leave the O/D because it will improve gas mileage.
