How hot is too hot for '91 Auto Tranny?
After reading some of the more common problems/fixes for these hardbody trucks, I am wondering in my tranny is getting too hot.
I am driving a '91 D21 with the VG30 and auto transmission. I used to have the carpet removed during the summer months (outside temps in the mid 90s) and the trans. hump in the floor and shifter plate would be very hot to the touch, too hot to remian touching them.
I have previously replaced the single core radiator with a double core. The transmission is hooked to the bottom of the radiator for cooling, but I have no clue if the lines are blocked or if there is adequate flow. Is there an easy way to see about flow to the cooler without spilling fluid everywhere?
If I replace the tranny fluid (I would estimate nearly 100K on the current fluid, although it does still appear more red than I would think it should, and does not smell funky) is there a way to clean out the cooling lines or is an aftermarket cooler the best way to go???
Thanks for the great information provided in these listings.
