I'm trying to replace a leaking pinion seal. I've got the flange off but I cannot get this three bolt sending unit housing off the differential housing. The bolts are out of it. There are two tiny phillip screws I discovered with a mirror holding a thin metal bracket at the top of the sending unit housing. It looks like these have to be removed to get the sending unit housing off so I can get the pinion seal out. What a pain. This sending unit housing was not mentioned in the Haynes book.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? All advice appreciated.
I can't wait to lie down on that 11 degree concrete to get that seal out this morning.
I have the same problem. I can not for the life of me figure out how that ring comes out. I even went to the dealer and asked to see the print out. No go that sender was not in any of the diagrams.
The axel code on mine is hg63 from the plate inside the drivers door.
My HG46 axle pinion seal is also leaking - '96 KingCab, 99K, SE pkg with LSD. The hayes manual couldn't be more vague. Help is greatly appreciated.
I figured it out.
The riing that the sender is attached to is made of aluminum. After you remove the three bolts. If you tap on the bulge tworards the front of the truck it will pop off. Tap right on the steel bracket that holds the conector in place.
