Question 01 KingCab - Pulsing RPM's

I have a manual 4 cylinder and my RPM's are acting funny. 2001 with 17,000 miles and oil changes every 3 months like instructed.

With the truck rolling down the street, if I depress the clutch the RPM's will come down to about 800, then rise back up to about 1800 for a second or two, then fall and rise.

This happens until:
1. If I move the shifter into Neutral it stops and goes down to idle (about 800).
2. When I eventually stop rolling - it stops most of the time.

Keep in mind, I had to get up to speed, then depress and hold in the clutch. Basically like you do when you approach a stop sign or something.

Now, I notice this happens more severely while the A/C, defroster, etc IS or WAS on.

Something else that may be related...when sitting still with truck idling. If I turn my steering wheel the RPM's increase a few hundred. This may be due to the load of the tires and such, but I did not notice it before. I may be paying more attn to the RPM's now, so this is hopefully normal.

The dealer tells me sincce he can't find codes that nothing is wrong and that it is normal. My feelings are that if this is normal, then my truck was broken for the first two years I had it since it did not do this. A truck pulsing between 800 and 1800-2000 RPM's without pressing the accelerator is NOT normal.

Any ideas from you guys would be appreciated. I intend to go to the dealer tomorrow with guns ablazing....any ammo you can give would help.

I am sick of hearing things are normal when a dealer can not fix it!!!

Just a wild guess, but I would look at the idle control system. The small solenoid or motor might be malfunctioning, or the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) may be misadjusted or malfunctioning. If the TPS is bad, the engine will never know where the throttle is, and it's moving the idle control plunger in and out trying to "find" it.

Is your truck still under warranty? I wouldn't let it leave the dealership's garage floor until they know what's wrong with it.
