96 nissan pathfinder se

just bought this with 96k. garage kept. serviced at local nissan dealer.
what brand / weight oil do you recommend?
what brand trans. fluid do you recommend?
should i stick with nissan oil and trans. filters vs. aftermarket filters?
i plan on replacing the stock shocks and struts with kyb. should i go ahead and replace the rear bushings that seem to cause some swaying in some models at the time i replace the shocks and struts?
thankx.

Check the owner's manual, you've got one weight for winter and one weight for the rest of the year, that's what I stick with.

With that many miles I wouldn't try synthetic unless that's what has been in it already. Just get a good conventional fluid and switch it often.

I use purolator oil filters without any problems, some recommend OEM oil filter. I don't think you'll find the trans. filter aftermarket at any auto parts stores, but you can order an OEM filter kit off the internet that has the filter, o-ring and gasket. Try alloemautoparts.com

I changed the struts and shocks but with 98k I still haven't needed the bushings yet.

One thing to keep in mind as you read these posts and service your truck down the line is that the 96 has a completely different EVAP system than the 97 and later pathfinders.

It's your emission control system and it includes the charcoal canister and a bunch of valves and sensors. Unfortunately this system is one of the main causes for the check engine light to come on and can be a pain to diagnose and fix. If you have any problems or check engine codes for the EVAP system just remember the 96 is a unique setup for this system.

Not a reason for concern, just keep it in mind in the future if you see any errors. Just make sure the check engine light isn't triggered or disabled (should turn on temporarily when you start the engine). I've got 97 pathfinder that I bought new in 10/96 and wish every car was this reliable.

this 96 pathfinder se was garaged kept and is so clean it's unbelievable. the engine is spotless and has been serviced by local nissan dealer. the seller has 4 cars/trucks and everything including his home was awesome. i had my mechanic give it a real check and he drove it and he said that he honestly felt it was an excellent by for $7500.00. it's pretty close to mint in my opinion. he installed the brush guard and had real expensive floor mats installed and a woodgrain dash/interior kit.
