Question Nissan Making A Valve Knocking Noise

My 1995 Nissan has been making a knocking noise in the valves. I'm not sure if it is a bad lifter or what. I've had this problem for a while and I was using 10W-40 oil and someone told me to change to 5W-30. Well that took care of the problem for 3 or 4 months, but I cranked my truck up today and it started knocking again. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and knows the solution or fix to it?

If you have 50K miles or higher, you should consider the fact that it may be the timing chain guides going bad. Nissans with the 2.4 liter KA24E have a big problem with this. Search this forum for KA24E timing chain and you will find some answers. I did mine over the summer, let me know if I can help you.

I really dont think this is the problem. If it was a timing chain guide it would make the noise all the time. This is just occasionally.

New to this board, and I was browsing through old treads.

Did you ever find out your problem?

Is it a knock or tick? When do you hear it, cold? At operating temp? Or both?

If you hear it at operating temp, and under load, it might be a exhaust manifold leak.

If it is minor and happens only in the first few seconds of operation, it is a normal sound for a KA.Remenber that these engines are solid lifter and as such always have a little valvetrain noise. If it lasts and is always there, it could be a number of things. How many miles are on lt? Does the knock happen all the time? Is it worse under load? The things that haven't been mentioned that it could be are bad rod or main bearings, bad transmission input shaft bearing, a cracked piston skirt, or a small end of a connecting rod that has become too big (piston slap).
