Hello. Im trying to get my datsun back on the road. It is a 81 Datsun 720 p/u with a z22s motor and five speed, 2wd. It has been setting for 5 to 7 years. I pulled it out of the weeds on sunday and drained all applicable fluids and replaced. I put a new battery in.

Here is my problem.

The carb is goofed up. The bowl fills, the needle shuts(i think) and then nothing. I have pulled the carb and cleand the hell out of it. Still, nothing. The truck will run like a champ if i feed it gas down the carb.

I have taken the top off and cleaned the crap out of everything.

Also, does the secondary butterfly ever open up???It looks like it has a vacum activator but it wont move a bit.

I went to the junkyard and all of them were the same way.

Is the accelerator pump bad????it would at least idle without it, correct???

I recon the jets are clogged or some crap. When the top was off i pulled what i belive to be the jets.(first time messing with a carb)
They were long needle things with tiny holes in the needle end.

What is going on here??????

Any help would be appreciated.

I dont really want to buy a carb. If i do I think i would go with a webber. The only reason im trying to get it to run is b/c my 95 nissan truck is royally messed up. I wont even go there just yet.

Take the carbie off the manafold and blow it out with compresed air...what you have cleaned are the air bleeds not the jets the dash pot should pump fuel in everytime you open the throtal it should idal without the dash pot the secondery will open up when the engine is under load...
