Question help...problem w/ mph gauge needle

ok, i have a 93 pathfinder. this problem just started happening, when i'm going down the road ~40mph, the mph needle works fine until i hit 60 mph and then it starts bouncing to 90mph, 100mph, 70mph, etc.

what could this problem be?? spedo cable, something in tranny??

let me know, thanks guys.

Sounds like the speedo gear in the tranny is wearing out and starting to slip, should be a cheap fix (Not sure on that one though)

Is it a cable driven unit? Somewhere around 93-95 they went to a digital speedo with an analog face. I would find out which first. it actually sounds like cable bind, but that is a WAG.
