Speedo & Instrument Cluster

Is my Instrument Cluster dead/dying? Last night on my way home from work the speedo needle on my 99, SE King Cab 4x4, 3.3L w/auto (only 54000 miles) dropped to 0 (like a rock) from 70. Then I noticed that the odometer also had stopped working. Also, before this happened, I could never switch to the trip odo’s, push that little button every which way but it would never change off of total mileage.

When I bought the truck (used, 3 months ago), the temp gauge would jump to read normal operating temp every time I started the engine (even if the truck had been sitting overnight). The mechanic tried replacing the temp sender but no luck, same thing, he feels gauge is bad.

Is there a sending unit to the speedo from the transmission that could have gone bad? Can’t find anything in Chilton’s. Or should I be thinking of replacing the Cluster Unit?

Any ideas and/or suggestions. Greatly Appreciated.

i had the same problem when i first bougt my 02 path. but it only happened once in awhile the temp gauge and the gas tank would jump up and down for a sec then go to the proper position. after about 2 days it stopped doing that. i never had a prob with the odometer. i took it to the dealer and all they said is if we cant identify it there is no prob. I HATE NISSAN SERVICE!! best thing to do is take it to the service dept if its still under warranty.
