97 hardbody & 86.5 hardbody

This is my first post . How many people have owned both a nap Z hardbody and a ka24e hardbody? I have owned do own both. i had an 86.5 4 cyl 5 speed std cab and i sold it now i have a 97 xtra cab 4 cyl 5 speed. The 86. seemed to have more power and torque than this newer 97. the 86 towed better accelerated bettter and even got better mileage. the 97 seems top have more top end than the 86 but it is a dog up until about 70-80 mph or at slower speeds under 3500-4000 rpms.

mileage on the 97 is 15-19.5 mpg and the 86 was 23-24 mpg
the mileage is combined city freeway mileage as i take the freeway for about 3 miles to work every day.

my 86 was bought new and i sold it with 150 k
the 97 i bought january of this year with 97 k it now has 102 k
and is up for sale.

any opinions? comments?
is there something wrong i dont see?

john

Sounds like there is something wrong with your 97. The 86 had about 105 hp versus the 97's 134. The torque on the 86 should be around 120 while the 97 has about 150 lb/ft. There should be no comparison between the two in power output. Go ahead and throw the bullshit flag if my figures are wrong for the 97. I am going from the specs of a 95 with a KA24E. I have owned an 88 and while it was a rock crawlin' trail bustin' beast, it could never run near my 95.

I agree with Aaron -- something's seriously wrong with your '97. The engine specs are actually 134 hp and 154 lb*ft torque -- way more than a stock Z24 engine. The big difference between the two trucks is you bought one new and one used. You never know what happened to your '97 before you owned it. Is the catalytic converter plugged? All filters new? 4x2 or 4x4? Dragging brakes? What do you know about the maintenance history of your '97?
