99 pathfinder rear end clunk

I have a 1999 nissan pathfinder and have been hearing a clunk coming from the rear end for sometime now.The clunk happens when i am slowing down and almost at a complete stop.I also hear it sometimes when i am at a complete stop and i let off the brake.I have taken it to a repair shop and at first they said it was the center carrier bearing, which it wasn't.Then they said it could be the back brakes, which it also was not.I would like to know what you think it could be.Thank You.

Just a thought, is your spare tire mounted underneath the chassis? It could be loose and clunking when it moves forward. My spare did that and it has a pretty good 'clunk' when it moves around. Other than that, you could have a loose suspension part. Hope that helps...

Hello, I'm currently having the same problem with my 99 Pathfinder and was just wondering if you ever found out what it was? Thanks!
