I drive a 96 Hardbody, but I want more power without spending thousands. I have found intakes and exhaust, havent bought them yet, but i was wondering if i there was a chip or something that would increase power a bit.
Do you have a V6 HB? If you do, their are plenty of offers in chips for it. JWT, and Venom are just some of the names out there. Venom even makes a complete NOS kit for the V6 (VG30) engine. Their are also camshafts, headers, etc. Have you thought about doing other engine mods to the block such as porting/polishing, etc?
Well if you want engine mods for your NAPSZ24 or your KA24 you can try www.4x4parts.com. They have everything from exhausts, headers, cams, pinion gears, clutches etc. Though some components such as clutches can be found cheaper at www.nopi.com.
Hey,,, headers are a good way to do that but I would wait 6 weeks cuz Pace Setter Headers that are for are truck are no longer in stock. Everyone around the US has none. I have to wait 6 weeks till they make more, Unless you want to pay 341.00 for Thoroley's or you could do like me and save 140 bucks and go to pace setter, but you would just have to wait. I kno it sucks. Get a muffler and dual ehuast. Im sure headers though will increase the HP more I guess? Beau M.
i have my pacesetter headers and race cam for sale but they were for my 86.5 hardbody and i doubt that they will fit your truck. well maybe the camshaft will

I just had mine rebuilt and am happy with the work done: milled the head and block .018, port and polished the head(port matched the intake), K/N filter, Doug Thorley header and new free flow cat with Dyno-Max Turbo Muffler in 2.5 in exhaust pipe. Sounds great...
Since you don't want to spend a lot of money then start with the small stuff the K/N filter, Pacesetters are cheaper than the Thorley system but they are built different too. I have both and prefer the Thorley system because it generates more power in mid range rpm's. No matter which header system you get you will have to deal with the exhaust system. A cat-back would do wonders also even with out the headers...
How would an intake affect the power? I found that APC makes an intake adapter for the hardbody. I didnt know if it would do the same to go with the k&n filter or intake and filter. And the Pacesetter headers, How much are those and would i need to do a full cat-back with those?
Thanx.
Most heads and manifolds have casting effects(ridges) that can rob power from your engine. If all you did was to port and polish the intake you could increase your horspower by about 5-10% add a K/N filter and you add about 2%. If you can find a cold air intake for that year then get it. that will also ad power....
As far as the headers I paid under $200 for the PaceSetters they work fine if you are wanting top end horsepower. They come with a 2-1/2 inch collector that connects the header to the exhaust. Since the factory catalytic converter is 2" in and 2-1/4" out that means you have to have something to connect between the two sizes... I had the misfortune of going to a muffler shop that under bid the cost to install and then cut corners. They just welded the collector to the cat and made a mess. That is why I installed a new cat and exhaust this second time to not have the same mistake...and the cat had 230,000 miles on it (original)...
But as with all things money is a concern so start with the stuff you can afford and then work up.....
