Newbie question

I would like to say hello and ask a basic question.

I have always bought used cars, but we just bought a new Murano and I wanted to know what steps should be taken to break it in properly.

BTW, so far it is an awesome car/SUV/whatever. I can't believe they classify this as an SUV because I have owned two other makes before and this is nothing like them. It drives more like a large luxery sedan.

Congrats on the new purchase....

But drive easy for the first couple of thousand miles.Keep the RPM's under 3K,don't use the cruise control during break in cause when your on the highway you don't wanna maintain a constant speed you wanna shift it around a bit like 60 to 65 to 70 and so on.And you should be fine...Oh and don't forget the first oil change is crucial...

While I was talking to the dealer about something else, he said the same thing. I guess I am from the old school when the first oil change was at 1k miles, but they suggest 3750. Weird?

This is an awesome car, however.

Break in should have been mentioned when you bought the Murano and/or it is outlined in the owner's manual. As for the firts oil change, I would do my first at 1,000 and then begin the regular intervals at 3,750...

I've noticed around the racing scene, some break-ins are done quite different on these newer cars. I've seen people put about 500 miles on them - change the oil (usually to synthetic) and then run them like hell out on the track Its probably rough on the valve train, but I guess it helps adapt the car for harsh driving and quicker response - IMO. I guess most figure if something breaks - its under warranty Anyway - I ran my Z06 at a high-speed driving course when it was a few hundred miles below break-in and I was very happy with how the car responded afterwards.
