i'm sure this has been discussed 1,000,000 times before but here it goes.
just bought a (used) 2002 pathfinder LE. it has the 6 disc in dash cd player made by bose. on the way home from the dealer i put a cd-r in that i compiled from mp3's. i got the error message: F3
the disc will work in every other cd player.
i then tried a cd-r of a disc that i made a 1:1 copy of and it worked. so the pathfinder cd player will play cd-r discs if it's a copy of a cd but not a cd-r of songs that are compiled.
what's up with that?!? has anyone had this problem? what is the fix?
i got a 02 path se and i havent had a problem wit cdr at all works fine with mine. the only prob i do have is that it skips a lot but thats the lasers fault
The Bose unit that we have will play CD-R's created from CD's (1:1) or compiled .wav (or similar) files. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be set up to accommodate mp3 files. What you can do is convert your mp3 files to wav format (using Winamp) or .cda (using Windows Media Player ????). Once that's done, then you can burn them on a CD-R. Haven't tried a CD-RW yet. I'm sure there's better ways of going about this, but this is what I've been doing.
I was also told that the units found in the Xterra's (not sure if all of them) can play mp3 based cd's. Sucks for us.
SLVRPATH and I are experiencing the same problem with skipping CD's. I've yet to take mine to the dealer. If that doesn't work for some reason, I'm thinking of going aftermarket. I know there are units out there (Kenwood being one of them) that offer the same features plus mp3 playback. I like Bose though...
Sorry if my explanation made it clear as mud for you.
thanks for the reply!
i am aware that the stereo will not play mp3's. it's a cd-r of a disc that i compiled from mp3 and converted to .cda format that will not play. i am a computer technician so i am very aware of the different types of cd-r and audio formats.
the discs i am having errors with are discs that will play in every other cd player (i.e. other vehicles, home stereo, portable cd player and computer) but not my 2002 LE in dash 6 disc changer.
like i said before: i can play a cd-r of a 1:1 copy from an original cd. i get errors with cd-rs that i have compiled from different sources and converted into regular audio cd-s.
my guess is that the cd player is looking for certain artist and track info that an original cd has, but is missing from a cd that is compiled from different sources.
if other people with the same stereo can play these types of cd-r then i know my player is defective and i will try and have it replaced under warranty.
thanks again.

i think i figured out the reason for my problem. i will explain in case anyone else has this problem.
the discs i created were burned with nero.
nero has an option to burn cd title and track title.
you have to put something in these fields because the bose stereo needs this info or it will get an error message.
well this is getting weird.
after playing the new cd-r i made, with the title and track info, it stopped playing.
that's right. the cd-r worked once, the next time i tried to play it it gave me the same error.
WTF

Yep. i had same problem. i don't know of a solution.
I just started having the same "F3" error in my 2002 SE with the Bose system. It has happened twice, and it won't play ANY CD. I just turned it off, unloaded all the CD's, and waited for a half hour or so. After that, it started playing again. Does anyone know what the F3 error actually means?
