Where is ECU?

Can someone please tell me where the ECU is located in my truck? I seen tolleyy's instructions on pulling the codes, but don't neccessarily know where the ECU is. Rumored to be under the passenger seat? Can I easily unbolt the seat to look at it, etc.? How can I see the ECU while driving?

Also...I have a suspicion that the Check Engine light on my truck has been disabled (bulb gone). Is there an LED light that will flash on the ECU also, or is it run strictly through the CE light? The instructions seemed to indicate just the light.

Thanks much,

The ECU is located under the passenger seat... mine has a black plastic cover and the screw you turn is on the side facing the center of the truck. I took the bench seat out of my truck, which led to a week long cleaning project, but you probably don't need to remove the seat unless you just want to.

The 97 ECU doesn't have an LED (at least that I saw) but my Q does, so maybe it disappeared with OBDII in 1996. You don't need to drive to pull codes... Might want to replace the bulb in your dash - no point in hiding from a problem. Older ECUs only turn on the check engine light for fairly serious problems - I've never seen the check engine light on on my Q. Truck had it until I fixed the intake temp. sensor.
