Ok so I have a 4cylinder 95 pickup auto. Recently its been giving me trouble. The engine will die on me periodically soon after starting up. Usually it will start up idle for a few minutes then the car will shake & the engine cuts off. I have to wait a few minutes before it will crank again. It will also cut out if I drive it a few blocks and come up to a stop sign or a red light, If I feel it start to shake sometimes I can give it gas and it will keep it running. Any ideas on where to start with this? If I can keep it running long enough to get it good and warmed up then I dont have any problems. It only happens at start up and after driving it short distances. Yesterday it wouldnt crank at all, but this morning it cranked fine. I have 190k on this truck

read the DIY on how to check your codes. took my seat out and the control box didnt look like the one in the DIY. Mine is a 95 2.4l XE. My box didnt have any kind of toggle switches on it. I turned my ignition to the on position and then rotated the knob with a screwdriver fully clockwise then waited 5 seconds then rotated it fully counter clockwise. The check engine light didnt flash but the red LEDs on the box did. It flashed 1 red then 3 green. Over & over & Over. according to the diy this is a coolant temp guage gone bad, But since the diy didnt look like my box and it said a 4 cyclinder would flash the check engine light & mine didnt, Im not sure what to do or if this is the right code. I tried to crank it again, this time it turned over but idled rough, you could smell gas coming out of the tail pipe. suggestions?

this is the lamest nissan forum ever. ok because no one even tried to help me out I broke down and took it to a mechanic. He is saying the ECM is bad. A used one is around $100 on ebay. I guess if the ecm goes bad a relay can shut off the fuel pump. Im going to replace this and see if it works. Ill report back later. Hopefully this thread will be able to help out some other poor schmuck with the same problem
