1996 Pickup SE Poor Acceleration and Power

Looking thru the many post I didn’t see anything on poor engine performance. This pickup has poor acceleration and power, especially when going uphill.

This is what I have had done so far:
Replaced distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, engine oil and filter, transmission oil and filter, had the transmission checked up by a transmission mechanic, changed air filter, changed timing kit, checked all vacuum hoses, used fuel treatment/cleaning additives, and checked vacuum (19.5 steady at idle-20 steady at 2000 rpm-engine and exhaust seems to be pretty good).

One more thing; when going uphill or when I step on the gas there is like a deep load hum noise coming from under the vehicle.

Engines idle beautifully.

I’m looking for a fuel pressure tester to check the fuel pressure to eliminate or identify the fuel system as the source of the problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

maybe I missed it but, did you replace the fuel filter? if so, then look at the fuel regulator which seems to be on the track that you are on.

Yes, I did replace the fuel filter. I'm in the process of getting a fuel pressure tester. I will post my findings.

Thank you.

I got it.

After everything that I did, finally I checked the fuel system and it was working perfect.

Then, while looking around one more time, I noticed a burned vacuum hose. This hose is about 2” long and goes from the EGR valve to the BPT (back pressure transducer) valve. I replaced it…and bingo, it did it. The pickup accelerates beautiful, have plenty of power, and the noise disappeared. I hope this may help others having this problem.
