electrial short or something else?

we are working on a 95 nissan pu if you step on the brake the front side marker/turn signals light up plus the rear turns and the interior airbag, seatbelt, and turn signal light up dimly plus on top of all that keep the foot on the brake the motor will idle down and die. we have tore down the dash havent found anything as of yet front and rear tail/park lights still nothing obvious here is something else to think about right side taillight we took it off the box unplug either bulb brake/turn it will also kill the motor while it is running there is slight feedback to both of these sockets and if you also unplug the taillight as a whole it will also kill we have also tried to start the truck with the bulbs/taillight unpluged and the truck WILL NOT START you have to have them plugged in to start unplug the first brake switch i think the one with the red/green wire all problems go away but of course no lights i have read there might have been a recall on the taillights but i wanted to throw this question out there to you enthueastis and see if you have encountered or trouble shot this b4 thanks alot!!

Well, it sounds like you've got your hands full. I really have no clue. I can throw out some ideas though....

Does it appear as though this vehicle has ever had an alarm installed then removed. most alarms usually cause all the lights to flash and the engine not to start. Perhaps you could be fighting that.

The only other thing I can think of at this time is perhaps you are chasing a hidden wire grounding causing the engine controls to not get the proper signals or signalling that the engine is shut off when really it is not.

No problem, If I can think of other stuff, I'll post it. Hopefully a few others will chime in with ideas also.

That's about the only thing that I would recommend

Now you say with the brakelights unplugged the truck won't start. Will it crank but won't catch, or won't even turn over.

If it was hit hard in the front, try looking at the relay box and see if anything was repaired there... it might have some wires crossed up there because something ain't right

I'm totally stumped
