Yeah, cold weather could cause really poor gas mileage, expecially if you are driving in snow. On you rig, if it was mine, I'd go through and replace everything, timing belt (and water pump), plugs, cap rotor, wires, all fluids (engine oil, coolant, brake, clutch, transmission front and rear diffs, t-case, fuel and air filters, repack bearings etc, etc, etc. It is funny how many people sell thier vehicles before the second 60,000 mile service is due. Since you just bought one with 110k, my guess is the previous owner had a shop estimate the cost and it scared the crap out of them. You can do all this fairly easily. Also, a fairly easy check is timing. If someone is wanting more power, they could have cranked the distributor throwing timing off and sacrificing mileage for power (not a real fair tradeoff). It may cost you about 200-300 in parts for all this, but it really is a small percentage of what a repair/maintenance facility would charge.
