Power Steering problem

I have a 1984 Nissan 4x4 king cab. The power steering pump went (over 100k miles). It was replaced 4 times by the mechanic, I only paid onec. It just went again. All in 2 months.

I need to help him fix this. He has done the following:

Rebuilt the steering box, flushed the system, hoses, etc. Replaced the pressure relief valve near the pump housing, and replaced the pump. In all cases, the pump top has been covered in fluid as if pressure has built up and blown out the pump, and that is what he believes to be the problem. There aren't a lot of components to the system. What needs to be done ? Also, the pumps are from different suppliers. 2 from aftermarket, to from dealer. It has been in the shop for weeks. The guy is a very smart, compentant master mechanic, who works on my friends new mercedes and other high end cars, and pretty much anything. But this is too much for him.
