Well, ONE THING that could be causing your problems is running the tank dry. The pumps use the fuel also to keep them selves cool. if the fuel level get low to empty then it can not cool itself and could burn itself out.
OR, if you have a leak in your fuel system as in pressure leak, like gas cap not on properly or the gas cap gasket not sealing properly or anything else that is allowing pressure to bleed off could be causeing your pump to run much harder than it was ever designed to.
OR - and I'm sure his is not the case, but, if you havel not replaced your fuel filter, it could be clogging and making the pump work harder.
OR - what if you put the fuel filter on backwards.
Well, it could be the computer OR it could be some other sensor that is not reading the proper amount of fuel or fuel pressure and relaying that info to the computer and the computer is then compensating for bad mis information. In which case it is not really the computer but it could be a sensor or a couple of items throwing the computer out of whack.
Last resort - Well, since this has been a royal PITA, you could have Nissan swap it out for you. If it keeps pooping out on you then it is on THIER shoulders and THEY will try and figure this out. And if after they swap it out, if it never dies again, you will not have to fight with the pump again.
Hope this helps.
