1991 nissan 2.4 engine coolant in oil

Can anyone tell me if it is possible on the 2.4 engine to get coolant in the oil without it going in through the head gasket or head. I took the head off and took it in for pressure check. Checked out fine. Gasket looked good could not see any place that looked like it leaked through. Head is not warped. Any other way for coolant to get in without cracked block? Is there any way it can get in through water pump housing? Scott Underwood

That sounds VERY strange. I'm going out on a limb here.... I've seen where a work car is driven about a half mile to work and back. I don't think the engine has seen operating temperature in about a year. There was so much condensation in the oil fill cap cause the engine never gets hot. It looks like the basic milkshake oil and water mix. Is that what you are seeing. Did you buy this vehicle from someone who only drove short distances? I don't think this thought will help, but I hope it does. Good luck to you.

yes

although this may not relate a friend of had coolant in the oil of
his toyota pickup (R22) it was not the head gasket. It seems that the previous owner thought he could do away with the timing chain guides thus allowing the chain to eat a hole through the side of the cover into a coolant pasage.

Thanks lovemysan. I got to checking and one of the bolts that held on one side of the timing chain guide came loose and the guide was destroyed. The chain then rubbed on the housing and wore a hole and the antifreeze went straight to the engine. It was definitely a problem right from the factory. The bolt did not break off it came loose. Now I have the bolt and the guide in my oil pan and that will have to come off. Thanks for the help it got me looking in the right place. Scott

Nissan had a problem with the guide for the timing chain on my engine. The new guide that I received with my kit is completely different from the guide that disintegrated on my engine. They called it an update or something. The original guide must have been defective so they redesigned the guide. It should have beewn a recall because it can take out your engine. It is also a huge job to figure out the problem and fix it. They should have sent out a warning to get it fixed after they figured out the problem. I will call Nissan but I am sure I will get no satisfaction. Scott
