Question Terrano 2 over revving and smoking

Hi,

I got a 99 Terrano II, 2.7 Tdi Auto, and tonight whilst out for a drive it was running very hot so I pulled into the petrol station to top up the water. Then it kicked out a ton of thick grey smoke and revved up off the clock. I thought it was gonna go bang, so switched of the ignition and the smoke kept pouring out and upon turning the ignition back on it still wanted to over rev, having to break to keep it in check. It since ran hot even after I topped up the expansion tank, but the smoke and self revving seem to have stopped.

I had just topped the diesel up, and had a new stereo fitted. (just in case it's an electrical problem)

Just when I went out for this drive, the engine wouldn't turn over for maybe 4 tries, then fired into life.

Help please. I already have my old estate sitting forlorn outside my house.

Thanks in anticipation.

Pete

Terrano II over revving and smoking

Sorry all, seems that the over heating is down to a radiator leak. That leaves only the over revving and thick smoke. Today it drives fine so I don't know if it is just an injector clearing.

If anyone can help as to whether this is critical or not I'd love to be prepared.

Thanks

Pete
