need help with speaker selection for king cab truck

I went up to Crutchfield yesterday thinking I was going to get a decked out sound system only to be told they didn't have any speakers to match unless they made special modifications. They suggested they could "make the rear speakers fit". However there was additional charge for their time to install the rear speakers. I wasn't up for "make shift" work so I came home with nothing.

What arrangements have you all made to installing rear speakers in the orginial spot? I looked at a nice pair of Polk Audio speaker 6 3/4 inch yet the sales person said they won't fit unless he made them fit. Any suggestions?

There probably is a space/depth problem. I'd try some different custom stereo shops. They can install spacers, that look almost OEM.

I found some clarions awhile back that fit nothing to fancy but they sound good for highs and some mid.. The problem is the screw holes and depth. You cant go very deep so dont expect much from this location. Ive seen custon made 1 to 1 1/2 inch plates made from wood that the guy mounted to the factory mount and then mounted the speeker to the wood. It worked great and when he covered the wood in Carbon-fiber look vinal(sp) they looked pretty slick. They didnt stick out to much, but they did stick out more than the factory ones, sounded way beter to.

When getting them custom fitted, you need to make sure you can still drop the jump seats down, unless you don't plan on using them. Pioneer had some, but the aren't producing them anymore I still run just the stock and have only highs going to them.
