blowing fuses

Couple of days ago the dash light the tail light and the brake lights stopped working on my 93 pickup 2wd. I changed the blown fuses today and on my way home tonight they blew again. I know there must be a short somewhere but any clues on where to start looking would be nice. Oh by the way when i was driving without the lights on the brake light worked just fine and the fuse didnt blow. Any idea why the 2 are blowing at the same time?

If you have a trailer wire harness on the truck that might be a start or any other modifications to the lighting circuit , fog lamps etc.

Which two fuses are blowing? It's pretty unusual to have two go at once. Knowing which two are blowing and tracing the circuits on a wiring diagram will give you a major hint on where to look. Find where each circuit goes, and find where both circuits share the same space.

For example, if one fuse goes to the instruments and the tail lights, and the other fuse leads off to the brake lights and the stereo, it's a pretty good guess that there's a fault in the harness that leads back to the rear of the truck. Both circuits will run in the same area, so a single damaged area could cause both fuses to blow.

Tell us which fuses are blowing and check your wiring diagram. You DO have a wiring diagram, right? If not, get one.

I was going to tell you to check the grounds for the radio, but, its still a possibility that ground is loose it might also be a place to start, did you have a chance to look at the trailer harness as golfer suggested? check that ground as well if you havent.

also, you may want to swap out the dimmer switch and test it again.

95 Nissan XE Pickup Headlamp Blowing Fuses. Short?

My 95 Nissan XE Pickup just started blowing headlamp fuses, but only the LT Front. At one point I had a minor lighting modification done in England to comply with law, but have never had a problem until now. Local specialist troubleshot engine bay and found nothing. Suspects short in wire under dashboard, but I am afraid we're chasing a ghost.
