I've got a pretty badly cracked windshield on my 93 HB 2wd. I called around for a replacement and I'm looking at an extra 40-75 bucks for a windshield because mine currently has an antenna in it. I'm not sure about this, but everyone I talked to says I need this antenna in the windshield even though I've got one on the hood. I've been told that if one antenna can't pickup any signals that the other one will. My question is, do I really need that antenna in there? I'm sure I could find a use for that extra 40-75 bucks in my pocket rather then their pockets.
Heh, and I had figured my truck had the antenna in the windshield because it got replaced with a piece from a Pathfinder... I can tell you that the one in my windshield is not wired to anything, there is just a big blob of solder down in the passenger side corner.
I receive radio stations just fine using the antenna on the fender. I would check the windshield for a wire. If it were me, and it was using the windshield antenna, I would wire the fender antenna to the radio. Of course, I could do without radio anyway.
I was told from a few auto glass shops that not all Nissans have the window and the fender antenna. Only a few of them have both. I guess you and I both have the same bad luck and got stuck with the antenna in the windshield too! I plan on putting either a satelite radio or just a plain CD/MP3CD deck in there within the next month or two anyways.
I got both antennas too. When I was adding speakers to my systems (only had door speakers) I noticed 2 big black antenna plugs. I,m only using one of them. My windshield has a crack right across the bottom and the radio works excellent , therefore, I don,t think it matters. But I could be wrong. Let me know when you get yours installed.
Hmm, Alright. I think I'll see what the guys at the glass shop say once more and I'll make a decision from there. I thought my truck was weird for only have the two door speakers, but I guess I'm not the only one.
I believe if i'm not mistaken (definite possibility) that the antenna in the windshield is for AM reception. I replaced my windshield a year or so ago and didn't get the windshield with the wire because of the cost and the AM stations don't come in now. What's on AM radio anyway?
