After changing the timing chain and tensioners, (posted in another thread) I decided to switch to 5W-40 Rotella Synthetic. This truck ha had nothing but Mobile 1 Synthetic in it since break-in and has approximately 160k.
There is definitly a big difference between the 2. Before there was the usual lifter tic's that seems to be pretty common.
Within about 50 miles after I changed it I knew something was different, had been listening for any signs of chain rattle and was'nt looking for anything else but low and behold when I start it cold there was no noise, I mean None.
It's got 200 or so on it now and the only noise that I can hear now is 1 lifter with a barely perceptable tic when it's hot and this is in Phoenix 110-150 degree heat.
I'm convinced now that Rotella Synthetic is better than Mobile 1
