vavle ,oil seals, blue smoke

1995 nissan hardbody ex
reg cab 2/door ,2.4l ka24e, motor
180,000 miles ,automatic

since changing the oil a little more frequently than the last owner i have
started having a puff or cloud of blue smoke at start up, even when driving
for an hour or so, at start up it will smoke a little.does'nt smoke any other
time.been told it was the vavle seals leaking a little.is this problem worth
correcting now or will it get worse as time goes on?smoke at start up is annoying to me ,kind of a costly fix, not the price of the seals but the labor.is there any additives out there
that will swell the seals up so they won't leak?or is the only fix, is to replace the seals? when i have the extra cash..........thanks to all that can help!!

Had a similar issue with my '86 Chevy truck a few years back. Pulled the valve covers off and replaced all the valve seals and whalla! no more smoke.

You're right about the cost. I did the work myself, so my only cost (minimal) was the seals. If I had paid a technician to do it... well, you know.

I don't know if there are any effective "additives" you can get for this. And aside from being kind of anoying, I don't know if the leaking valve seals are a huge issue. But it is good to not have the smoke (looks better too).

If I ever had to replace the seals on our '92, I think I'd tackle this work myself, but it would likely be a little tougher on this vehicle than on my '86 Chevy 305.

the valvoline high mileage oil also helped me when my truck was puffing oil on startup. it took 2 oils changes to make it right again so dont give up on it if it doesnt work immediatly.

I would go with SPEEDO and 93rustbucket, maybe even try "Restore". I don't know anything about it but it is suppose to bring back engine compression as well to an oild tired engine.
