Water in the cap would cause engine misfire. If your engine is running smooth, but weak, I'd definitely try the filter first.

I suppose I'll replace the fuel filter. But it was changed only about 1,200 miles ago.

But hey, why not start with the cheap option.

I think there is an intake leak somewhere so maybe water got in somehow.

I'll let you know how things go.

Thanks!

Question wow, what's wrong with my truck?

uh, oh... is death looming on the horizon with my truck???

The last couple times I've gone up a fairly steep grade on the freeway it just has NO power in 4th and 5th gears. Like I can barely go 45 mph!

Theres' kind of a swishing sound or shuffling sound when this happens. On the flat everything seems fine.

Could it be something not so bad like an air leak? I suppose I need to get a compression test to learn all the gory details?

If anyone has an opinion I'd sure like to hear it.

re

sounds like the clutch is slipping, do you smell anything? check your clutch fluid, how many miles do you have on it,year, etc. check your fluids and see if there is anything strange.

Correct me if my logic is wrong, but if a clutch is slipping in 4th and 5th, and at low revs to boot (2000-2500), it'll definitely slip bad in 1st and second. So I really don't think that would be it.

Arrow just talked to a mechanic

Well I don't smell anything.

The mechanic says he'd start with the fuel filter. He says since the problem is only when there is a load on the engine (going uphill) he thinks maybe it's a clogged filter. Whew! if it's only a gunked up filter!

The truck's only got about 79,000 miles. Also I hear maybe it could be water in the distributor cap. I hope that's it! It's been raining a lot here in San Fran the past couple weeks.

Thanks for your opinions you guys.
