1986 Nissan 4x4 King cab

Having problem with my 1986 Nissan 4x4 king cab, while tighting the alternator belt I got a spark which made my check battery light come on. ( I know I forgot to disconnect the positive terminal on the battery)I had the battery checked and that's good but they thought the alternator was bad, I replaced it but still had same problem, light still on. Had both the old and new alternators checked they checked out good, so does anyone have any idea of what my problem could be? Maybe battery cable?? thanks for any help

If you got a spark just by tightning the alt. there must be some kind of a short, did it come from the alt. or could it have come frome the wires.you might disconnest your battery for a few min. and see if it resets the light.

Thanks, am going to have a full test run on the battery today because the light still comes on after replacing the alternator although it's dimmer now. Has been pretty cold here down to Zero so maybe the battery needs replacing, will let you know the results of the battery test.

You're right! It was a short in a wire called the fuse wire, connects to the battery, I didn't even know it existed! Taught me a lesson, I will not try to tighten anything on my truck without disconnecting my battery terminals.Thanks for all the help.
