89 Pickup Z 24 Engine

I have to keep my clutch slightly pressed to keep the engine running in 4th and 5th gear. If I take my foot off the clutch pedal the engine will shut off as if you turned off the key. Any Ideas what could be causing this to happen. I know there are two switches that the clutch arm has to engage. One is when you are starting up the engine and you have to have the clutch pressed in, but I am not sure what the other switch does when the switch in pressed in. The switch in question is the one that is out when I hold the clutch pedal in slightly. (I guess that when the clutch is pressed in slightly the switch is open and when the clutch pedal is all the way out and the clutch arm is pressing the button in, the switch is closed). I hope this makes sense!

Is it the ASCD (cruise control) switch? I'm not sure why that would shut the engine off. Do you have cruise control? If so, is it operating properly?
