trip odometer and odometer, sticking,need fix?

any fix suggestions on how to fix a sticking trip odometer and odometer?
can reset it several times works a little while then sticks .nether one moves ?
sometimes will stick and after a while, will go back to working .what can i do to fix this ?hard to check gas milage..
1995 nissan xe ,automatic reg cab 2.4l , 177,000 miles

as long as the speedometer is ok and it is a sticking problem I would try using a cleaner such as tv tuner spray. But the problem may be more difficult such as a bad gear or motor within the asembly. Never taken one apart so I don't realy know the desighn.
