i havent checked the fluid yet i cant turn the bolt. That bolt it on there tighter then a SOB.
I took my 1/2" ratchet, held it securely in place and tapped the end of it with a 5-lb hammer. The bolt(s) came loose after a few taps. Make sure you can get the fill plug out before you get the drain plug out.

I just picked up a 94 nissan hardbody with 74k miles on it. It seems to have been very well taken care of. The problem after driving around for a bit and the car warms up it wont let me engage into first gear when at a complete stop and its hard to get it into second gear. When slowing to a stop i can get it into first gear. Also, how do i check the transmission oil in the truck.
BTW, how does it behave if you double-clutch?

Alright here is the lastest update. I drained the tranny fluid and it appeared to have been changed not to long ago. The bad part is there was a lot of little metal shaving on the drain plug. Im guessing it may be the syncros that are going bad. Sometimes the tranny engages in first gear real smooth and other times it just wont engage.
it is possible, but the synchros won't care if its hot or cold. they are mechanical items and yes they could be worn but they would do it hot or cold not one or the other. how does the clutch feel? I would try bleeding the clutch and then check your adjustment at the top of the pedal. at 74k the clutch should not be bad, unless it has been abused. the clutch with normal operation should go 150k easily.
The clutch feels fine. I'll try bleeding the clutch and see if that does anything. I hope it isnt the syncos becuase im imagining it will cost a lot to change.
i find this problem sorta weird. Sometimes when i havent driven the car i a while and the car is cold the tranny shifts into first as smooth as butter. Then after a while of driving it will go into 1st only when im rolling at 1-2mph. Cant be at a complete stop of i'll have to start in second gear. Then once it wont let me go into first it id harder for it to go into second gear. It goes in second gear fine but needs a little bit of force.
