Cheap mods for a 94 Frontier?

I have a friend with a 94 Frontier with what looks to be a KA24 motor. Since I know there are BOATLOADS of mods for these motors on 240's and such, do they also fit on frontiers? He doesnt have a ton of money or anything, but he wants to do somethin, so list any relatively inexpensive mods you can think of.

swap in a higher performance cam like Competition Cams. There's also a header you can swap with the stock exhaust manifold. Magniflow or Flowmaster mufflers. Swap the cat converter with a pipe. K&N filter, but I doubt that'll make any difference. Don't know how much your friend is willing to spend, but those are some.

I mean like mods less than maybe 200 bucks. Like say, on the spec v, you can pick up a short ram intake and gain about 8 whp, thats a pretty good buy (or is it 8 crank, i forget). I dunno, he just wanted me to ask about it, its already blown a headgasket and caught on fire somewhat, so i was thinking scrap the motor and swap in SR20, but he is too car retarted to handle that. So basically, I'm thinking along the lines of any ghetto mods that would help, especially in reliability department.
