I just bought an 87 Pathfinder, it starts and sounds good. However, when you engage the clutch and place it in any gear, NOTHING HAPPENS.
The clutch "feels" normal when depressing the peddle.
The drive shaft and u-joints are in tact.
No grinding sounds or anything out of the ordinary.
I thought if the clutch went out, you wouldn't be able to get it in gear?!?
Please help.
True you couldnt get it in gear if the vehicle was running.
Verify that it is in gear by placing it in first and/or reverse & see if it can be pushed (two person job to avoid injury). The engine will attempt to turn over if it is in gear. So make sure the key is in the off position.
BTW what you describe sound like the "disk hub" has broken off and is no longer connected to the tranny.

Is it possible that your transfer case is in neutral? It would require some pulling and pushing the lever into NEUTRAL, but it's possible.

I guess I'll just have to drop the tranny and take a look inside. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

The transfer case is the same as my 2wh, 4wh, N, 4wl shifter?
