There are several ways to tell if you have one or not. Most LSD will have a sticker on it saying "use LSD oil only". It may also have a stamp on it somewhere identifying it as an LSD.
In my opinion, the sure way to tell is jack up both rear tires(be sure to wedge the front tires so it won't roll on you), put the trans in neutral, take the parking brake off, and spin one of the back tires. If the other tire spins in the same direction, congradulations, you have a LSD. If it spins in the opposite direction, you have a "one wheel wonder."

thanks, the truck is 17 yrs old so I don't know if there are readable stickers on it still. as far as spinning tires in air, I thought LSD spun opposite direction too.
was LSD an option for 1988 or would all SE V-6 pu have it? I thought SE had every option. It seems like it has LSD because it likes getting sideways on wet or dirt roads.

My truck is a '97, so I'm not really sure what was standard or optional on your year model. I believe for me, the LSD was optional, I just got lucky.
I didn't know I had an LSD myself until I went to rotate tires about a month after I bought it. My brother was helping me and he had to spin the tire for some reason and shouted "you lucky som-bitch, you have a pos" We looked at the differential and sure enough, it had a sticker hidden on it that said "use LSD oil only"
