ka24e timing chain

I just replaced the timing chain on my 93 hardbody and i think i`m off by a degree or two....not sure but when i started it it sounds like a tapping band really loud and i think its coming from the valves...
Can someone tell me how to properly set the timing on the camshaft ..or something ...it would be a great help...i`m out of ideas...and the chilton manual ...well you know...

All the timing marks for the cam, crank and distributor are only exposed when you have the front cover off to expose the timing chain.

Sounds like something is loose.

That would suck if have to take the front cover off to check the timing marks again.

The timing is usually set a 10 deg BTC.

There are the 2 off-colored chain-links that are positioned on each gear. But you probably already know that. The dimple on the front of the lower gear (crank) should be positioned at about 5:00 oclock (looking at eng from front) the dimple on the Cam gear will be at about 03:00 oclock and BOTH of the off-colored links must be aligned with each of the dimples. You wil probably have to remove the front cover............sorry
