Is your 720 slow?

Just wondering if everyones 720 is as slow as mine. it has a newer z24 in it, but top speed is about 70, and it takes 10 minutes to get there

. I like the engine because it has some great torque, just wondering if its normal for the truck to be so slow.

Not a chance. My '84 720 would fly. It would bark 2nd gear from the first day until I got rid of it with 250K. It would pull 105-110mph with two dirtbikes and fully loaded with gear, tools, gas cans and two adults (acting like kids).

Damn, I miss that truck.....

my truck moves out pretty good, through third. then I hit 4th and it still goes, just not very fast. Definitely not doing 100+ I just cant seem to rev it up. I tried to adjust the throttle linkage, and I have it maxed out. it still seems like I should have more throttle, like the carb is not opening all the way. Maybe I am just used to a thirsty head jerking V8...

It shouldn't be nearly as slow as you describe. Have your wife/significant other/dog hold the gas pedal to the floor and see if the butterfly is opening up all the way.

I believe that the secondary on these guys is vacuum operated.. (no?) You may be in need of a carb rebuild. But I would suggest going with a weber carb(if you don't have to pass emissions, although I have "heard" of ppl passing with them), will get you 10-15 more HP if it's setup right.

BTW: my 85 720 4x4 Kc will do 75 easy.. That's the highest I have taken it so far as it's my only mode of transportation right now, but I'm sure I could get it to 80-85 on a flat stretch no problem..
