Remanufactured 4x4 5spd '96 hardbody

I finally got my truck into a shop, and after they pulled the tranny it turns out I am up a creek without a paddle. I took my truck in thinking it would just need a bearing kit, which the shop said would cost me about $800 to drop the tranny, put a bearing kit in it and put the tranny back in.

well once they got the tranny dropped they found out that it had all kinds of problems... bad bearing, bent shaft, bad gear. So now I got 2 options have them put a remanufactured tranny in or I can find one at a junk yard and they will put it in for me.

I am leaninig more towards biting the bullet and putting in the remanufactured tranny... I would feel better knowing I got something in there that is going to hold up, plus I will have a little warranty.

Any advise on what I should do?

While they have it tore apart I was going to have them put a new clutch in. So they said they would put a remanufactured tranny, new clutch for $2000, plus tax and fluids. Does that sound about right?

Other wise they said they would charge $275 for clutch, and $475 for labor for an in/out job on a salvage yard tranny, plus tax and fluids.

Anybody have any references for finding a remanufactured tranny for my truck via internet or phone?

Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks

Been doing some calling this afternoon to find a salvage yard tranny just for out of curiousity... but I didn't have any luck with that.

I did do some talking with another local tranny shop and the guy said he could rebuild my old tranny for around $800-$900. Thats not installing it just rebuilding my old tranny. With this in mind what is replaced as a standard rebuild? I got a price on a remanufactured tranny for $1000. It is on the other side of the state, but I have a buddy that comes this way often and could save me shipping costs. Would my old tranny rebuilt be better than the remanufactured one, considering they are about the same price?
