Heli coils

Hi,

I'd like to know something about tapping out new threads. I've stripped the female threads on a cylinder head and was wondering how I'd know or be sure that I tap it correctly.

I've done this before, on a bench, where it's really open, but not on the engine.

thanks,

Make sure you use some sort of tapping fluid. Make sure the tap is entering the hole perpendicular to the surface. And don't turn anymore after the tap touches bottom...

also, if you havent done this yet, dont do it all at once. go slow and backtrack. dont forget a magnet as well. youll need it to pull out the drive tab on the helicoil once you break it.
