Need suggestion for OBDII reader

I am a DIY'er with my 96 Sentra with 1.6 engine. I am looking for a reasonably priced OBDII reader. I imagine that there are some brands that are better for my car than other. I would appreciate suggestions. Thanks.

if you need it just for pulling codes the ecu by itself can do that. just search for "pulling codes ecu" or something along that lines.

I don't think any obd reader out there can function like the consult though, as in monitoring all the sensors and changing timing, etc... well at least not for Nissans, they may have them for domestic cars.

Where do you get the CONSULT?

Where does one get a CONSULT device to read codes, etc.? I imagine that they are pretty pricey. Is there a substitute for this device, or, do you have to get this one to get all of its benefits??

there's third party scanners that plug into a laptop to read sensors like the consult does... but to get one... sorry I'm out of ideas... though I saw one on ebay once!

there are also a program that you can use with your palm pilot and plug it to read and adjust stuff.

james vick se-r57 has one and he said it cost about 600-700 bucks.
