Make sure you buy metric tools and not standard. Check out Home Depot and Sears for price comparisions.

10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 17mm and 19mm sockets, deep sockets, box wrenches!!!

sometimes a crescent wrench will come in handy as well.

that should be mostly it. I usually just buy tools as I need them because sometimes if you just buy tools for no reason... they tend to collect dust...

oh get a couple of those oil pans to drain oil/fluid into. i get the larger ones.

i picked up a 261piece (i think?) at sears a few months back. got aggravated with going through my dads tools and finding random sockets only, never a full set. came with a full sets of 6point and 12 points metric and standard sockets, full set of deep sockets (metric and standard), screwdrivers, allen keys, crecent wrenches, some socket extensions, and a 3 ratchets (1/4 * 3/8 * 1/2 inch drive, sockets are also 1/4 3/8 or 1/2 based on their physical size (largest majority is 3/8th drive). all this plus a toolbox made to fit this exact kit.... $200. good buy imo

only thing i'll definately be getting is a set of Snap-On ratchets. the sockets are one thing, sears replaces those....but the craftsmen ratchets dont compare AT ALL to the Snap-On equivalents, plus Snap-On has a pivoting handle ratchet that saved my knuckles doing a brake job the other night, very useful

I find that the ~$100 craftsman mechanics set and a set of metric wrenches will do fine for starters, plus you'll have tools you need for non-car projects. You should have been looking the day after thanksgiving, sears always has little sets on sale, you could have picked up some basic stuff. And buy as you need, no sense buying expensive tools you won't use in six months. Plus get a jack and stands.

Yeah my $15 Craftsman ratchet has that feature too. Nice try. The only the thing Snap-On makes that I'm remotely interested in are the specialty tools.

Wait till you've used a Snap-On ratchet.. I used to think my Craftsman was good until I used one of those things.. Now I have on in 3/8" and 1/4"..

Wellll worth the $100+ for it.

maybe for when you pass the beginner stage, kinda hard to justify when you're just doing things here atnd there. Craftsman are fine if you're not doing a lot of work.
