Armada

Does anyone have an Armada, and what are your thoughts and opinions on them? I want to get an SE with cloth interior but it doesn't look like it will hold up all that long.

A little rough w/super driveline!!!

I spent the extra $ for leather because I did not like the cloth either. I'd say the truck is just average overall. The ride is a bit stiff and the radio reception is about the worst I have ever encountered. I do a lot of towing, my previous truck was a stump pulling 1997 big block 1 ton Chevy and the Armada driveline is amazing, it would leave the old chev for dead. Nissan really has something special here in the engine/trans combo. If you do any heavy towing and want the V8 rumble look no further. If you want a smooth and refined ride, buy a Seqouia.

Armada - Sequoia comparisons

We ended up buying an LE because we wanted leather and the towing package. An LE with no frills is an SE with those options (plus a few other minor tidbits). Test driving the standard interior, I thought it would hold up fine - but with two labs and three boys, I wanted indestructible and leather is the closest to that.

As for the Sequoia comparison - take a test drive. The Armada drives much, much better. Sequoia feels like an underpowered truck. Armada is somewhat car like with a ton of power and towing capacity. From the utility standpoint, the fold flat rear seat beats out the Sequoia as does the three across fold flat second row.

There are some quality issues with the interior of the Armada - most seem to center around rattles from the overhead console.

The heart of the sequoia - Armada comparison comes down to this. The Toyota has been around a few years and been wrung out for problems (front brakes were a huge issue). But it suffers from its older design and less dynamic powertrain. The Armada is new, which always translates to some need for minor tweaking, but the design is fresh, the comfort features are all the latest, and the powertrain is second to none.

More Armada good stuff and a Toyota explanation

I forgot to mention that the Armada has a HUGE amount of rear (2nd seat)legroom, I believe more than any other SUV. And I did not want to start any Toyota/Nissan spat, but I happen to own both, and the Nissan has got the driveline and interior space hands down, not even a good fight. I would not have laid out that much $ If I was not impressed with the Nissan, If it gives me the great service the Toy has over the years it will be a real special ride. But the overall build quaility, fit/finish and ride go to the Toy. Give me the Nissan driveline in the Toys body and I think you would have the best of both worlds. The Nissan gas mileage (10-15) has not been real good, but with that much power and as I am almost always towing something(8000lbs loaded toybox or a 14' utility with MX bikes and quads) I guess you can't expect too much. By the way the Toy cannot handle the toybox.

I just purchased a used '04 Armada SE with 12,000 miles on it.So far I love it. I do agree that Nissan has a ways to go interior wise, but the engine more than makes up for the interior. I had a '94 Toyota Land Cruiser that had a tough time towing our 19 ft family boat. Not the case with the Armada, the engine just won't quit. I would highly reccommend the Armada. Good luck!

I just traded my Sequoia for my Armada LE. I'm sorry, but I actually believe this is an apples and oranges debate. The minute I drove the Armada I knew it was something different (that I needed to rely on for towing). I don't think I'll hurt this thing.
