Opinions on Armada towing

If you buy the Armada with the tow option, the differential
is geared for more towing capacity.

How does this gear ratio affect highway driving vs. the
standard gearing. ie, if you cruise at 90mph how much
more increase in engine RPM do you get with the tow differential?

The majority of the time, I will be doing highway driving
and if I tow, it will be light loads, therefore would it
be more advantagous to just buy the Armada with
standard differential gearing, then later install an
aftermarket tow kit, or does the 5 speed transmission
allow good 90 mph cruising speeds w/tow differential ?

Check with your Nissan dealership -- they should have a brochure there that will (or should) list the different gear ratios available, and they can help you calculate your engine speed at normal cruise (90 mph for you?).

I would imagine the optional gear set is probably 10-20% shorter than "normal", but that's speculation. So I imagine that if your engine speed was around 2500 rpm at 90 mph with the normal gear set, it might be in the 2800-3000 rpm range with the optional gear set.

That's all speculation though...check with your Nissan dealership to be sure. This is just something to go on and get the gears in your head turning, so to speak. Do you plan to purchase soon?

Test drove 4x4 LE Armada w/Tow. 80 MPH the RPM
was about 2400. I also test drove the 2WD Suburban w/tow,
it had the same specs at 80 MPH, 2400 RPM.

Electric brake controller pre-wire??

Does any body know where (location) the "electric brake jumper" connector w/pig-tail that comes in the glove compartment plugs into??? I looked pretty close under the dash with no luck. I need to get my controller in and do not trust my dealer to do almost anything. By the way the Armada V8 makes me feel like I am in one of my old mucle cars, shhh, don't tell the wife. What a motor!!

If I understand correctly, the lower final gear ratio only goes into effect when you press the TOW MODE button and engage the system. Otherwise it is the same as an armada without the tow package...Tom

The plug for the brake controller is way the hell up under the dash - takes awhile to find it, but it is pretty much where the install instructions tell you it is. Keep looking. Mine works fine - no issue. Oh, and tows a 5Klb car trailer like a dream - much better than the Suburban 1500 did. Very stable while towing and plenty of power. I'm happy.

I just bought a '05 Titan and found the controller pigtail just under the dash by the steering column. It is tied with a zip tie and has a white label hanging off of it that ids it at the electric brake controller. I had to lie down on my back with a flashlight to find it but it was there.

My truck is also an XE. The connector is a white plastic connector. Follow the emergency brake up to where is hinges, the connector is right there and has a white tag hanging off of it that says Electric brake controller.
