Broken Hood Release

I got into my car the other day, and noticed that the hood release lever had broken off of whatever it connected to. The thing is so low that it's next to impossible that I snagged it on something or banged into it and broke it. Matt said that it almost seemed like the heat may have warped the plastic piece that held it on. So.....since there appears to be no manual hood release outside the car, how am I supposed to get my hood open? And what is the likelihood that they will fix this as a design flaw "out of warranty", or do you think I'm stuck paying the parts plus 70 bucks an hour for labor? I REALLY need to get my oil changed, so it would help if I could get my hood open...Grrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!
P.s> Matt just informed me that he may not have checked correctly for a manual release, so it's probably there, but the problem remains with the interior piece.

edited for grammer becasue i have a migraine and can't spell correctly...or really see straight for that matter...

Wow...I have never heard or seen a lever under the dash broken off like that before?

If your car is still under 60,000 miles...I think you're safe to get it repair by the dealer for free. How many miles do you have on your car?

I got an extended warranty on my baby... when I bought it. I got a 6yr/100,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty.

If your're out of warranty...just remove the dash cover and you should be able to find the cable that release the hood and then buy a new plastic clip to replace the broken one.

I have taken many car dashs off before... to install stereo equipment and alarm system. So...I don't think it will be too complicated to remove our car dash cover. Let us know if you need help in anyway. Good luck!

I can actually pull the lever out and expose the cable. There is A LOT of slack in it. I am at almost 37000 miles so I don't know if they will fix it. Maybe they will find it unusual enough to fix it for free. I have no idea how it could have happened. I have the extended warranty to 50000 miles, but I think it only covers powertrain and not "cosmetic" issues.

I think Toyota have a basic warranty of 3/36,000? and the extended of 6/100,000.

If you have the extended warraenty like I did...then you should have the same 6/100,000 bumper to bumper warranty?

My paper work say 6/100,000 miles bumper to bumper and 6/120,000 for powertrain. Call the dealer...I think they can probably work something out for you and yes...it is very unusual in your case. Good luck!
