Anybody know the cost at a dealer for having this changed? Mine is filthy and needs to be changed out. Kwik Kar will do it for 80 but they have to special order the T5 fluid form Toyota. I can buy it directly from Toyota and take it back to KK and get a discount, or shell out whatever the dealer feels like ripping me off for. I got put on eterna-hold when I called the dealer for a price check, so...
So I just called the dealership....waited on hold for 15 minutes to talk to a guy who had to ask me if the Matrix was a Toyota or not. Yeah, I'm gonna trust them with my car... It's 99.95 plus tax, but he would not give me a price for just the fluid. I'm about to call Kwik Kar and just have them special order it.
Hmm...how did your tranny fluid get so dirty?
The tranny fluid in my old '95 SE-R lasted 'til
I sold it @ 100,000 miles....
What does the owners manual say about changing
the fluid?
I think from what I've read, it looks dirty at about 30K miles. Recommended to change at 60K, but they (KK) said it smelled too and was borderline. There has been some lagging in performance, so I'll go ahead and have it changed. Gonna end up taking it in to the dealer, becasue the price is cheaper for the T5 fluid through them. Maybe they will warranty it. May as well change it now rather than later.
Toyota Sport City changed my Transmission Fluid for $75.00+tax. I had mine changed at 35,000 miles... just because I planning to keep my Matrix for a loooong time! Good luck!

I may check with another dealership. Or I'm just going to have Kwik Kar do it for 130 on a special order, because the hassle factor would be so much less. In and out in an hour or so...

Wow...$130.00!!!! Save yourself $50.00 and go to Sport City... if you can't find a cheaper place! If you get there at 7:00AM...they can change your fluid right away...30-60 minutes just like regular oil change time! AND...you get a FREE car wash too!!!
Speaking of changing fluids. I just changed the front and rear axle gear oils on my truck, I also changed the gear lube in the transfer case, I've cleaned the throttle body intake, and I've replaced the PVC vale. Oh and I also lubed the steering intermediate shaft. Total cost for all of the necessary supplies $120. I've save about $300 in labor + shop fees by doing it myself.
The manual recommends this be done at 100,000 miles. I only have 30,000 miles on the odometer, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to do it early. The fluids were very dirty and loaded with metal shavings.
It doesn't seam that it would make a difference, but it does my truck drives so much smoother now.
Next week I'll do engine and transmission oil change, and I'll get some new O2 sensors on it too.

Yeah like I said, I may just save myself the hassle factor and get Kwik Kar to do it. Screw Toyota. I'll go there for warranty work, but they aren't getting my business as far as where my money goes. They were so rude to me on the phone and KK has been nothing but helpful, so my money goes where the help is...
Just remember to make sure it is driving OK and let them know immediately if something is wrong. those lube and tube places are a little funky sometimes.

But just to be on the save side, I'd pull the dipstick out before you leave the shop to make sure there is oil inside the trany. Sometimes they forget to put the oil. Ohhh and one more good thing to do before you take the car in, would be to crawl underneath your car and with a marker mark a few transmission bolts or the drain plug; That way you can check and see if they have changed it actually. Sometimes they just add some fluid and say that they have drained or replaced it.

Yeah..very true!!!! I have heard and seen those turds on hidden cameras!!!!!
They Leave your car in a shop for 2 hrs, then later...add a bottle of transmission so you can see the fluid and it is kinda red. And, they will charge you with 2 hrs labor ($100/h) and all kind of parts!!!! This usually happen to most female and some guy!!!
When you in Kwik Kar...Just stare out from their door and check. Most of the time you can see what they doing because their shop isn't big enough to hide anything from your view! Good luck!
