Newbie basic question

Ok. so i want to lower my car a little. idk prolly like 1-2 inches. and i've found springs all over and struts and everything but what all is actually neccisary. Can i get away with just doing springs? or do i need struts too. and what is the deal with coilovers. sorry to seem like a loser but i've never done anything besides cosmetics to my car so im way new.. thanks in advance. Also, what are "dampers" from the context used in they just sound like struts, and in the same note are struts and shocks the same thing different name?

Have fun!

If you're not really sure what you're doing, getting a mild street set of lowering springs, 1.5" drop or so, will be just fine... If you want to get really low, you'll either end up replacing a lot of stuff, or breaking something, or both... Good luck!

Here we go. ready? The more u drop ur car the worse the ride i have a 2000 altima se and dropped it 3 inches. rides like shit but handles great!! 1.0 to 1.5 would not be too bad. but i also suggest replacing strut mounts and struts, depending on mileage. also do not forget to align ur car when done. struts and shocks pretty much act the same but the mount differenty. hope this helps.
