Another suspension question

When you guys put on your suspension did you take off your aftermaket wheels? I got the koni yellows and the eibach prokit for a 1.2 inch drop and was told i had to take off my aftermarket wheels so that the suspension can settle without affecting tread wear. Thanks for the help.

? That seems like a bizzare instruction. Unless you have extremely large or heavy wheels, there should not be a need to go back to your OE wheels. This is especially true of Eibach springs, which are pre-set from the factory (like all decent springs). If the springs take a set there's a problem. And the dampers should break in fine without any difference in treadwear you wouldn't experience in regular driving with the new suspension system (after it was broken in) and aftermarket wheels.

The mechanic said that you have to let the suspension settle before an alignment can be done and while the suspension is settling i would experience treadwear on my aftermarket wheels. I actually thought this was strange. I have friends who dropped their cars and haven't had any problems. Thanks for your help though.

If you're just going to let your suspension settle, you can bounce the car at each corner after you've installed it on the car and adjusted the ride height (if you're really anal about it you can jack up one end of the car, lower it back down, and do the same for the other end).
