wheel cleaner vs. disc brakes

So,
All wheel cleaners are not safe for brakes. Whether its the rotor or the pad which reacts badly, the cleaner will make your pads not grip at the last minute. Meaning bite will be fine, but you'll have to push the pedal real hard and it will feel like there is butter on your rotor. So how are you suposed to wash your rims wth cleaners and not have this happen? (Short of just spraying the brake itself behind the rim with a hose after you're finished).

I've never had to use a special wheel cleaner on my wheels, just the same stuff I use to wash the car.

Well,
I'm talking about rim cleaners like meguiars hot rims, or eagle 1, armor all has one, the 'just spray it on' stuff.

I take the wheels off of the car and clean them 1 by 1 ...
It's a PITA but it also allows me to clean behind the outside of the rim...
