Instead of cutting your bumpstops, try softening them.
I drilled twenty four 1/4" holes in my full-length oem bumpstops in an effort to allow the suspension to contact them sooner, but allow a much more gradual increase in "rate." The difference in handling was stupendous. Yes, you still contact the bumpstops, but the contact is so gradual and so progressive that it is virtually unnoticeable, and thus upsets the car much less.
I ran cut bumpstops (cut in half) for a year on a B13 with an alleged 1.25" drop (Tokico springs). The car is 13" from hub to fender edge. Although you have supposedly more travel with the cut bumpstops, you generally cut the squishy part off, and then the contact you do get is sharp and abrupt - not good for handling.
I highly recommend softening the bumpstops over cutting them.
